Student Organizations
Student organizations provide a structure for students to grow, learn, serve others on campus and in the community, gain leadership skills, and enhance their ability to succeed at the college level and beyond. These organizations contribute to the development of a spirit of community participation and involvement on campus. In addition, students learn appropriate workforce skills in their leadership and campus service and training, which aid them in being productive and responsible citizens in their communities.
Student organizations are open to all credit students, including online students. Student organizations must be academically affiliated and align with Lanier Technical College’s mission of workforce development. These organizations are funded by the Student Activity budget, subject to all policies and procedures set forth in the Student Organization Handbook. Approval will be based upon budget availability, request purpose, and overall approval of the Student Government Association.
Procedure for Establishing a Student Organization
There are certain procedures that must be adhered to when requesting a new student organization:
- Establish the name of the organization.
- Identify faculty or staff member(s) that will serve as Advisor(s) for the student organization.
- Identify at least one student willing to serve as President of the organization.
- Recruit a minimum of 10 students that will join the organization.
- Submit a Student Organization Interest Form to the Campus Life Coordinator: campuslife@laniertech.edu.
- The Campus Life Coordinator will review the interest form to ensure minimal criteria is met before presenting to a review panel appointed by the Vice President for Student Affairs.
- Upon approval to proceed, the Campus Life Coordinator will present the interest form to the Student Government Association Executive Branch.
- The matter will be brought to the SGA Senate for vote.
- The Campus Life Coordinator will notify the requesting faculty/staff of the final decision.
Procedure for Awarding Student Activity Funds
Student activity funds support Co-curricular and Extracurricular activities that are based in the promotion of student development outside of the classroom. The utilization of student activity funds is restricted to benefit students exclusively. Students must be engaged in the decision-making process regarding the allocation of these funds. Disbursing monies from the student activity fund is subject to approval by the Student Government Association (SGA), and ultimately, the college President.
Annually, the Vice-President of Student Affairs (VPSA) or their designee will establish Student Activity Fee income estimates based upon college enrollment from the prior fiscal year. The VPSA and the Vice- President of Administrative Services or their designees will jointly agree on the amount of the estimated income to be retained in the reserve fund and the remainder available for allocation. When the estimates are available, the VPSA or their designee (E.g. Campus Life Coordinator and/or SGA Advisor) will provide for the finalization of the budget and shall provide distribution among registered student organizations and others who participate in Student Activity Funds programs. Unspent operating funds are automatically carried forward to the Student Activity Fund balance.
Procedure for Fund-Raising Events
All fund-raising events or activities associated with LTC Student Organizations must have prior approval from the Campus Life Coordinator. The Fundraising Request Form must be completed and approved before the event is scheduled.

Student Government Association
Acting in accordance with the mission statement of the College, the Student Government Association, comprised of the Executive Branch and Student Senate, strives to provide channels of open communication between the student body and student clubs, student organizations, and the college administration. The Student Senate provides a forum for the statements of student views and interests and represents the opinions of the student body to the college administration.
Any credit student enrolled at Lanier Technical College is eligible to be a member of the Student Government Association (SGA). The SGA is designed to facilitate student involvement within the College. The SGA promotes the general welfare of the student population within the College and facilitates communication among the student body, the faculty, and the administration.
The purpose of the SGA is to serve students by advocating for student rights as well as providing programs that enrich the college experience. The SGA governing body is comprised of an Executive Branch and Student Senate. An elected President, Vice-President, and Secretary form the Executive Branch.
Senators are chosen by each organization/club to represent the interests of that organization/club. Every student organization/club that receives funding from SGA must appoint a credit student to act as a senator in the Student Senate. It is key that Senators understand that decisions should be based on the students that they serve.

How can I join Student Senate?
