FRSC 1161 Fire Serv Safety/Loss Control
This course provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to understand occupational safety and health and to manage the duties and responsibilities of a Health and Safety Program Manager (HSPM) within their organizations. The course begins with an introduction to occupational safety and health, including its history, an overview of national agencies that produce injury and fatality reports, and initiatives aimed at addressing safety and health challenges in emergency service occupations.
Instruction includes a review of safety-related regulations and standards and their implementation through effective risk management processes. Lectures and discussion address pre-incident safety; safety at fire, medical, rescue, and specialized emergency incidents; and post-incident safety management. The course also examines personnel roles and responsibilities to highlight how operational and administrative personnel contribute to an effective safety and health program.
Additional topics include the development, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of occupational safety and health programs, as well as information management and special considerations related to legal, ethical, and financial responsibilities. Emphasis is placed on data collection, analysis, and reporting to support informed decision making and program accountability.
